04 diamond

The Diamond is the considered the most precious of gemstones, known for it's glittering brilliance. Its name comes from the Greek word adamas, which means "invincible" - well suited for the hardest mineral on earth. The sparkle of a diamond is second to none and is famous throughout history in many rare pieces like the Hope Diamond, The Great Star of Africa (now set in the British Imperial Scepter), and the Koh-i-noor (now set in the Royal Crown). In ancient times, the Greeks thought that diamonds could protect against poisons, and in Medieval times they were worn by those who could afford it to safeguard against the plague.
